Description

Starting a new job can simultaneously be one of the most exciting and stressful transitions we face in the course of independent living. On the one hand, a new job represents a paycheck and access to resources. On the other hand, work comes with a whole new set of expectations and responsibilities, and a need to incorporate those expectations and responsibilities into your daily routine. For Autistic people, starting a new job can represent an additional layer of challenges.

What Is Inside?

Who Is This For?

The purpose of this toolkit is to be a helpful organizational tool and guidepost for people seeking to navigate the process of starting a job, identify areas where they may need additional support or focus, and whether their new job represents the right long term fit. Everyone is in a different place when starting a new job, whether it’s a first job, transitioning directly from an old job, or starting up again after a break.

We hope this toolkit will be helpful to anyone who has any outstanding needs and concerns related to their safety or the safety of someone they support when accessing resources in the community.

About the Lifespan Toolbox

The Lifespan Toolbox is a collection of toolkits for everyone in the autism community from self-advocates, family members, professionals, and other members of the community to get on the same page about autism and lifespan.

We span topics all over the lifespan, specifically thinking about the adulthood years (the longest span of our lives!) and how we can all work together to support the autistic person/people in our lives and community.

Research and reported experiences from autistic individuals show a need to receive individualized support regarding life skills and to be connected with others. That’s where the Lifespan Toolbox comes in!

Interactive

  • Each toolkit page has an interactive webpage with active links and videos. You can also download the PDF which has ample space for taking notes.
