ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Hey there, Dr. Tara Regan here, and I’m the founder of Autism Grown Up and this program, the Autism Teacher Lounge.
I’m a big sis to 2 brothers on the autism spectrum and a professional working with clients on the autism spectrum for over 10 years. I have my PhD in Special Education, a Master’s in Social Work, and a love for serving the autism community.
During graduate school, I coached, collaborated, and did research with teachers who had students on the autism spectrum. Something that we often came across that us as teachers have such little training and support when it comes to autism spectrum disorder. We found it frustrating that this is so even though more research done in autism every day and it can be challenging to keep up with.
That’s what this program aims to do - to provide professional development and fill in the gaps you need to better serve your students on the autism spectrum.
Teachers have minimal to no training on autism while in school and while working at your school - together we can help you learn more about your students with autism and their needs and accommodations.
A common challenge teachers mention is navigating behavioral challenges in the classroom. There are a number of behavior and communication strategies we can put in place to make the day easier for everyone.
Teachers across special and general education often share that they feel isolated in terms of getting the help they need with their students with autism and even where to start. The Autism Teacher Lounge is a place for teachers to connect with each other online and share ideas.
